2007 Eye for Why Student Competition Official Rules
- By entering this contest, the entrant accepts the conditions of these Official Rules, under our uniform procedure for the submission of all such ideas.
- In order to participate, students must submit an original product design that solves an everyday problem.
- The product design must be presented with images and an explanation of the problem solved by the design and how it functions (see 31 for further entry requirements).
- Entrants awarded First or Second Place are responsible for sending Dyson a prototype for exhibition.
- All entries must be received by 5:00 p.m. EST February 9, 2008. Dyson and IDSA assume no responsibility for lost, late, damaged, misdirected, illegible or incomplete entries.
- As a condition of entering this contest, the entrant agrees that: (1) under no circumstances will you be permitted to obtain awards for any losses or damages, and you hereby waive all rights to claim punitive, incidental and consequential damages and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses, and waive any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased; (2) any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of or connected with this contest, or any prizes awarded, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action; and (3) any and all claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering this contest, but in no event attorneys’ fees.
- Entrant agrees that consideration of your entry by the judges does not imply or create:
- - a confidential relationship for any idea submitted to Dyson;
- - a promise to pay by Dyson; or
- - recognition by Dyson of either novelty or originality.
- Dyson and IDSA assume no responsibility for postal, technical or natural conditions that prevent the reception and judging of contest submissions.
- Dyson and IDSA reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to cancel or suspend this contest should causes beyond IDSA and Dyson’s control corrupt the administration, security or proper participation in the contest.
- Deadline extensions will not be made unless warranted by weather, strike, war, terrorism or other disaster.
Right of Ownership of Design
- Dyson and IDSA consider the submitted designs the property of the students.
- Dyson and IDSA suggest that each participant consider filing a patent application before submitting and displaying his/her design to preserve the participant’s intellectual property rights in the design. Dyson and IDSA suggest that students seek advice from faculty, school legal counsel, and the local bar association or not-for-profit inventor groups to learn about intellectual property protection.
- Dyson and IDSA are not responsible for any loss of intellectual property rights that may result from the submission of your design.
- Dyson shall retain a right of first negotiation (a first option) to obtain an exclusive or non-exclusive license to any intellectual property rights associated with the submissions. Additionally, Dyson retains the right to publicly display any submissions at any public trade shows or conventions.
Eligibility
- Undergraduate and graduate industrial design students enrolled in any of the NASAD-accredited degree programs and IDSA Individual Student Members enrolled in design programs are eligible.
- Work completed during the year 2007 by individuals who have since graduated will be accepted.
- Students may submit more than one entry.

Promotion
- Except where prohibited, acceptance of a prize constitutes the winner’s consent to the use of his/her name, likeness, biographical information and voice application, for advertising and promotional purposes, without limitation and without additional compensation.

- Winning entry models may be displayed.
